RESUMO

The study investigated the willingness for vaccine uptake during the COVID-19 pandemic (April-June 2021), and explored the effect of both mindfulness and health education in managing negative affect post-vaccination. In study 1, a sample of 468 Chinese college students completed a one-time survey, assessing loneliness, stress, medical fear, and vaccination likelihood. Results showed that medical fear mediated the relationship between loneliness, stress and vaccination likelihood. In study 2, 70 college students were randomly assigned to one of three intervention conditions (mindfulness, health education, and control) during vaccination. Participants in mindfulness group showed lower negative affect scores than the control group post-intervention (p = 0.019). However, no significant difference was reported between health education with the other two conditions. As such, medical fear would be an important factor to target for improving the likelihood of vaccine uptake. Furthermore, a short mindfulness intervention was effective to improve experience of vaccination through mitigating negative affect.

Positive effects of ultraviolet-C (UV-C) radiation on plants have been documented in previous literature with a focus on extending shelf life and reducing disease development. However, its effect on plant growth habits has been scarcely explored, especially in turfgrass where a compact shoot growth is a desirable trait. Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum) is a warm-season perennial turfgrass requiring low fertilizer and pesticide inputs. This project aimed to test the effects of different doses of UV-C radiation on growth and performance of seashore paspalum cv. Seastar. Here, we provide evidence of dose-dependent effects. Lower UV-C doses (6 s and 1 min daily) improved the performance of seashore paspalum, as manifested by higher tiller density, reduced clipping yields, increased chlorophyll level on selected dates as well as enhanced photosynthetic efficiency compared to control. Contrastingly, higher doses (6 min and 30 min daily) resulted in severe damage with 30-min treatment being lethal to seashore paspalum, causing marked declines in all measured parameters. This is the first time that UV-C-induced growth response was reported in turf. Conclusions drawn from this study would shed light into the effects of UV-C radiation on the growth and performance of seashore paspalum and offer exciting potential for the utilization of UV-C at non-lethal dosage in turfgrass management.

BACKGROUND: A history of SARS-CoV-2 infection has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs). Even mild PPCs can elevate the rates of early postoperative mortality, intensive care unit (ICU) admission and prolong the length of ICU and/or hospital stays. Consequently, it is crucial to develop perioperative management strategies that can mitigate these increased risks in surgical patients who have recently been infected with SARS-CoV-2. Accumulating evidence suggests that nitric oxide (NO) inhalation might be effective in treating COVID-19. NO functions in COVID-19 by promoting vasodilation, anticoagulation, anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects. Therefore, our study hypothesises that the perioperative use of NO can effectively reduce PPCs in patients with recent SARS-CoV-2 infection. METHOD AND ANALYSIS: A prospective, double-blind, single-centre, randomised controlled trial is proposed. The trial aims to include participants who are planning to undergo surgery with general anaesthesia and have been recently infected with SARS-CoV-2 (within 7 weeks). Stratified allocation of eligible patients will be performed at a 1:1 ratio based on the predicted risk of PPCs using the Assess Respiratory Risk in Surgical Patients in Catalonia risk index and the time interval between infection and surgery.The primary outcome of the study will be the presence of PPCs within the first 7 days following surgery, including respiratory infection, respiratory failure, pleural effusion, atelectasis, pneumothorax, bronchospasm and aspiration pneumonitis. The primary outcome will be reported as counts (percentage) and will be compared using a two-proportion χ2 test. The common effect across all primary components will be estimated using a multiple generalised linear model. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The trial is approved by the Institutional Review Board of Xijing Hospital (KY20232058-F1). The findings, including positive, negative and inconclusive results, will be published in scientific journals with peer-review processes. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT05721144.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of gentiopicroside against lipopolysaccharide-induced chondrocyte inflammation. METHODS: SW 1353 chondrosarcoma cells were stimulated with LPS (5 µg/ml) for 24 h and treated with different concentrations of gentiopicroside (GPS) for 24 h. The toxic effects of GPS on chondrocytes were determined using a CCK-8 assay and EdU staining. Western blotting, qPCR, and immunofluorescence analysis were used to examine the protective effect of GPS against the inflammatory response in chondrocytes induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). One-way ANOVA was used to compare the differences between the groups (significance level of 0.05). RESULTS: The CCK-8 results showed that 10, 20 and 40 µM GPS had no significant toxic effects on chondrocytes; GPS effectively reduced the production of IL-1ß and PGE2, reversed LPS-induced extracellular matrix degradation in cartilage by inhibiting the Stat3/Runx2 signaling pathway, and suppressed the hypertrophic transformation of SW 1353 chondrosarcoma cells. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that GPS significantly inhibited the LPS-induced inflammatory response and hypertrophic cellular degeneration in SW 1353 chondrosarcoma cells and is a valuable traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.

Iron dysregulation is a crucial factor in the development of neurological diseases, leading to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress, triggering inflammatory responses, and ultimately causing neurological impairment. Pachymic acid (PA) is an active ingredient extracted from the medicinal fungus Poria cocos, which has been reported with multiple pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, anti-ischemia/reperfusion, and anticancer actions. In this study, we test whether PA have neuroprotection effect aganist ferrous ions induced toxicity in SH-SY5Y cells. It was found that pre-treatment with PA reduced intracellular ROS levels, increased mitochondrial membrane potential, and protected cells from apoptotic death. RNA-seq and qRT-PCR results indicated that PA can regulate the key genes IL1B, CXCL8, CCL7, and LRP1 on the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways, such as NF-κB signaling pathway, IL-17 signaling pathway, to prevent Fe2+-induced apoptotic cell death. Our research indicated that PA has potential therapeutic effects on the neuroprotection by regulating neuroinflammation and oxidative stress damage.

The rising prevalence of global antibiotic resistance evokes the urgent need for novel antimicrobial candidates. Cationic lipopeptides have attracted much attention due to their strong antimicrobial activity, broad-spectrum and low resistance tendency. Herein, a library of fluoro-lipopeptide amphiphiles was synthesized by tagging a series of cationic oligopeptides with a fluoroalkyl tail via a disulfide spacer. Among the lipopeptide candidates, R6F bearing six arginine moieties and a fluorous tag shows the highest antibacterial activity, and it exhibits an interesting fluorine effect as compared to the non-fluorinated lipopeptides. The high antibacterial activity of R6F is attributed to its excellent bacterial membrane permeability, which further disrupts the respiratory chain redox stress and cell wall biosynthesis of the bacteria. By co-assembling with lipid nanoparticles, R6F showed high therapeutic efficacy and minimal adverse effects in the treatment of MRSA-induced sepsis and chronic wound infection. This work provides a novel strategy to design highly potent antibacterial peptide amphiphiles for the treatment of drug-resistant bacterial infections.

Mixing fillers featured with wide band gaps in polymers can effectively meet the requirement of higher energy storage densities. However, the fundamental relationship between the crystal structures of fillers and the dielectric properties of the corresponding nanocomposites is still unclear. Accordingly, we introduced ultralow contents of the synthesized cubic Hafnium dioxide (c-HfO2) or monoclinic Hafnium dioxide (m-HfO2) as deep traps into poly(ether imide) (PEI) to explore their effects on dielectric properties and the charge-blocking mechanism. m-HfO2/PEI showed better charge trapping due to the higher electron affinity and deeper trap energy. At room temperature, the 0.4 vol % m-HfO2/PEI maintains an ultralow dielectric loss of 0.008 while obtaining a dielectric constant twice that of pure PEI at 1 kHz, simultaneously outperforming in terms of leakage current density, breakdown strength (452 kV mm-1), discharge energy density (Ud, 5.03 J cm-3), charge-discharge efficiency (η, 92%), and dielectric thermal stability. At 125 °C, it exhibits a considerable Ud of 2.48 J cm-3 and a high η of 85% at 300 kV mm-1, surpassing the properties of pure PEI. This promising work opens up a new path for studying HfO2-derived dielectrics with unique crystal structures.

BACKGROUND: Platelet count is associated with cardiovascular risk and mortality in several cardiovascular diseases, but the association of the nadir platelet counts post-septal myectomy with the cardiovascular complication risk in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy patients remains unclear. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study reviewed all adult patients who underwent septal myectomy at a single tertiary referral center over a 5-year period. Postoperative nadir platelet count was defined as the lowest platelet count in the first 4 postoperative days or until hospital discharge. The composite outcome included cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, heart failure, malignant arrhythmia, cardiac tamponade, and major bleeding events within 30 days postoperatively. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression and restricted cubic spline models were used to assess the association between postoperative nadir platelet count and the 30-day postoperative cardiovascular complication risk. RESULTS: Among the 113 enrolled patients, 23 (20.4%) developed cardiovascular events within 30 days postoperatively. The incidence of postoperative cardiovascular complications was significantly higher in patients with a nadir platelet count ≤ 99 × 109/L than in those with a nadir platelet count > 99 × 109/L (33.3% vs. 7.1%, crude risk ratio: 4.67, 95% confidence interval: 1.69-12.85, P < 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression revealed that postoperative nadir platelet count was negatively associated with 30-day postoperative cardiovascular complications (adjusted odds ratio: 0.97; 95% confidence interval: 0.95-0.99; P = 0.005) and the association was linear (Pnonlinearity = 0.058) after full adjustment. The association between nadir platelet count and cardiovascular complications within 30 days post-surgery was consistent in all predefined subgroups (Pinteraction > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The postoperative nadir platelet count was significantly associated with the 30-day post-myectomy risk of cardiovascular complications in hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04275544).

BACKGROUND: Children with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy (USCP) have muscle hypertonia, balance, and coordination defects that affect gross motor skills, especially walking. Understanding the gait characteristics and lower limb muscle activation patterns of USCP children can provide an objective and quantitative basis for patient assessment and treatment plan formulation. OBJECTIVE: This study compared the gait and lower limb muscle activation characteristics of children with USCP and with typical development (TD) during walking. METHODS: We recorded gait and sEMG data of 20 children with USCP, and 20 with typical development. sEMG signals were acquired from the bilateral tibialis anterior (TA) and lateral gastrocnemius muscles (LG) during walking. The root mean square (RMS) value, integrated electromyographic (iEMG) value and co-contraction ratio (CR) were used to evaluate muscle activity. Student's t Test and non-parametric rank sum Test were used to compare the differences between the data groups (significance level of 0.05). RESULTS: The stance time, step length, speed, single leg support time ratio, ground impact, pre-swing angle, and muscle strength of the affected side were significantly decreased compared to those of the unaffected side in children with USCP (P < 0.05), while the swing phase, muscle tonus of LG were significantly prolonged (P < 0.05). Compared with TD children, children with USCP exhibited reduced bilateral walking ability, particularly noticeable in their smaller pre-swing angle(P < 0.05), diminished muscle strength of the TA and LG, as well as LG spasms(P < 0.05). SIGNIFICANCE: Children with USCP have decreased ambulatory gait stability. Step length, pull acceleration, pre-swing angle, and CR can be used as sensitive indicators for gait assessment. Strengthening the TA muscle and reducing ankle spasm may help improve gait and postural stability in children with USCP.

Persistent inflammation and associated pain significantly impact individuals' quality of life, posing substantial healthcare challenges. Proinflammatory cytokines, released by activated macrophages, play crucial roles in the development of chronic inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis. To identify and evaluate potential therapeutic interventions targeting this process for mitigating inflammation and pain, we created myeloid cell-specific knockout of Vamp3 (vesicle-associated membrane protein 3) mice (Vamp3 Δmyel) by crossing LysM-Cre mice with newly engineered Vamp3flox/flox mice. Bone marrow-derived macrophages and peritoneal resident macrophages from Vamp3 Δmyel mice exhibited a significant reduction in TNF-α and IL-6 release compared to control mice. Moreover, Vamp3 deficiency led to decreased paw edema and ankle joint swelling induced by intraplantar injection of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA). Furthermore, Vamp3 depletion also mitigated CFA-induced mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia. Mechanistically, Vamp3 loss ameliorated the infiltration of macrophages in peripheral sites of the hind paw and resulted in reduced levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in the CFA-injected paw and serum. RT-qPCR analysis demonstrated downregulation of various inflammation-associated genes, including TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1ß, CXCL11, TIMP-1, COX-2, CD68, and CD54 in the injected paw at the test day 14 following CFA administration. These findings highlight the novel role of Vamp3 in regulating inflammatory responses and suggest it as a potential therapeutic target for the development of novel Vamp-inactivating therapeutics, with potential applications in the management of inflammatory diseases.

This study aims to propose and evaluate DR-CycleGAN, a disentangled unsupervised network by introducing a novel content-consistency loss, for removing arterial-phase motion artifacts in gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MRI examinations. From June 2020 to July 2021, gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MRI data were retrospectively collected in this center to establish training and testing datasets. Motion artifacts were semi-quantitatively assessed using a five-point Likert scale (1 = no artifact, 2 = mild, 3 = moderate, 4 = severe, and 5 = non-diagnostic) and quantitatively evaluated using the structural similarity index (SSIM) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). The datasets comprised a training dataset (308 examinations, including 58 examinations with artifact grade = 1 and 250 examinations with artifact grade ≥ 2), a paired test dataset (320 examinations, including 160 examinations with artifact grade = 1 and paired 160 examinations with simulated motion artifacts of grade ≥ 2), and an unpaired test dataset (474 examinations with artifact grade ranging from 1 to 5). The performance of DR-CycleGAN was evaluated and compared with a state-of-the-art network, Cycle-MedGAN V2.0. As a result, in the paired test dataset, DR-CycleGAN demonstrated significantly higher SSIM and PSNR values and lower motion artifact grades compared to Cycle-MedGAN V2.0 (0.89 ± 0.07 vs. 0.84 ± 0.09, 32.88 ± 2.11 vs. 30.81 ± 2.64, and 2.7 ± 0.7 vs. 3.0 ± 0.9, respectively; p < 0.001 each). In the unpaired test dataset, DR-CycleGAN also exhibited a superior motion artifact correction performance, resulting in a significant decrease in motion artifact grades from 2.9 ± 1.3 to 2.0 ± 0.6 compared to Cycle-MedGAN V2.0 (to 2.4 ± 0.9, p < 0.001). In conclusion, DR-CycleGAN effectively reduces motion artifacts in the arterial phase images of gadoxetic acid-enhanced liver MRI examinations, offering the potential to enhance image quality.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of trunk training using motor imagery on trunk control and balance function in patients with stroke. METHODS: One hundred eligible stroke patients were randomly divided into a control group and trial group. The control group was given routine rehabilitation therapy, while the trial group was given routine rehabilitation therapy and trunk training using motor imagery. RESULTS: Prior to treatment, there was no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05) in Sheikh's trunk control ability, Berg rating scale (BBS), Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), movement length, movement area, average front-rear movement speed, average left-right movement speed, and surface electromyography (sEMG) signal of the bilateral erector spinae and rectus abdominis. After treatment, Sheikh's trunk control ability, FMA, and BBS in the two groups were significantly higher than those before treatment (P < 0.05). The movement length, movement area, the average front-rear movement speed, and the average left-right movement speed in the two groups decreased significantly (P < 0.05). The differences of these indicators between the two groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, the rectus abdominis and erector spinae on the affected side of the two groups improved when compared with those before treatment (P < 0.05). The rectus abdominis and erector spinae on the healthy side of the trial group descended after treatment (P < 0.05), while little changes were observed on the healthy side of the control group after treatment (P > 0.05). The rectus abdominis and erector spinae on the affected side of the trial group improved when compared with those in the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the decline of abdominalis rectus and erector spinal muscle on the healthy side. CONCLUSION: Trunk training using motor imagery can significantly improve the trunk control ability and balance function of stroke patients and is conducive to promoting the recovery of motor function.

Constructing atom-clusters (ACs) with in situ modulation of coordination environment and simultaneously hollowing carbon support are critical yet challenging for improving electrocatalytic efficiency of atomically dispersed catalysts (ADCs). Herein, a general diffusion-controlled strategy based on spatial confining and Kirkendall effect is proposed to construct metallic ACs in N,P,S triply-doped hollow carbon matrix (MACs /NPS-HC, M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu). Thereinto, FeACs /NPS-HC with the best catalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is thoroughly investigated. Unlike the benchmark sample of symmetrical N-surrounded iron single-atoms in N-doped carbon (FeSAs /N-C), FeACs /NPS-HC comprises bi-/tri-atomic Fe centers with engineered S/N coordination. Theoretical calculation reveals that proper Fe gathering and coordination modulation could mildly delocalize the electron distribution and optimize the free energy pathways of ORR. In addition, the triple doping and hollow structure of carbon matrix could further regulate the local environment and allow sufficient exposure of active sites, resulting in more enhanced ORR kinetics on FeACs /NPS-HC. The zinc-air battery assembled with FeACs /NPS-HC as cathodic catalyst exhibits all-round superiority to Pt/C and most Fe-based ADCs. This work provides an exemplary method for establishing atomic-cluster catalysts with engineered S-dominated coordination and hollowed carbon matrix, which paves a new avenue for the fabrication and optimization of advanced ADCs.

This paper presents a literature review on the topic of organizational performance. The study conceptualizes the overall performance of the organization as comprising of organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB) and counterproductive work behaviors (CWB). While there are numerous research studies on OCB, not many have focused on how OCB and CWB affect organizational performance simultaneously. The paper provides an explanation of the OCB and CWB concepts, followed by the primary research and focus of the study. The article presents a comprehensive framework for understanding the meanings of OCB and CWB, along with an internal hierarchy. This framework will serve as a beneficial resource for working managers, academics, and researchers, who seek to optimize economic productivity through improved understanding and management of OCB and CWB.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of non-benzodiazepine hypnotics in the treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG) patients with insomnia. Methods: This is a prospective longitudinal study. Outpatients who met the criteria for stable MG and insomnia diagnosis according to the International Classification of Sleep Disorders (third edition) were included in the study. They took a regular dose of non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (zolpidem 10 mg per night or zopiclone 7.5 mg per night) based on their own preferences. Patients received psychotherapy (including sleep health education) and were followed up for 4-5 weeks. Cases with lung diseases, respiratory disorders, or inappropriate use of hypnotic medications were excluded. The primary outcome is the difference in total Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score between baseline and the end of follow-up period. Secondary outcomes include the difference in Myasthenia Gravis Activities of Daily Living (MG-ADL) score, 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire (GAD-7), and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) between baseline and the end of follow-up period and the safety of medication. Results: A total of 75 MG patients with insomnia were included in this study. After 4-5 weeks of treatment, the total PSQI score and MG-ADL score were lower than baseline (p < 0.01). No patients had an increased MG-ADL score. The incidence rate of adverse events was 16.0% (12 cases), including dizziness (6 cases, 8.0%), drowsiness (3 cases, 4.0%), fatigue (2 cases, 2.7%), and nausea (1 case, 1.3%), all of which were mild. No patients had new onset breathing disorders. Conclusion: Non-benzodiazepine hypnotics are safe and effective for stable MG patients who need insomnia treatment.

BACKGROUND: The association between tissue oxygenation with postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) in adult patients undergoing multiple valve surgery has not been specifically studied. METHODS: In this prospective exploratory cohort study, 99 patients were enrolled. The left forehead, the left forearm, the left upper thigh, and the left renal region tissue oxygen saturation using near-infrared spectroscopy were monitored. The association between each threshold and AKI was assessed. The relative and absolute thresholds were < 70%, < 75%, < 80%, < 85%, < 90%, < 95%, and < 100% baseline, and baseline-standard deviation (SD), -1.5 SD, -2 SD, -2.5 SD, and -3 SD. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was adopted to explore the association. RESULTS: AKI occurred in 53 (54%) patients. The absolute value-based SrrO2 thresholds associated with AKI were baseline-3 SD (odds ratio [OR], 4.629; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.238-17.314; P = 0.023) and baseline-2.5 SD (OR, 2.842; 95% CI, 1.025-7.881; P = 0.045) after adjusting for the potential confounders, those are renal region tissue oxygen saturation of 55% and 60%, but not statistically significant after correcting for multiple testing (corrected P = 0.114 and 0.179, respectively). CONCLUSION: The SrrO2 desaturation, defined as < baseline - 2.5 SD or < baseline - 3 SD, may be associated with AKI. The thresholds need to be verified in future large-scale studies. Lithium sulfide (Li2 S) is considered as a promising cathode material for sulfur-based batteries. However, its activation remains to be one of the key challenges against its commercialization. The extraction of Li+ from bulk Li2 S has a high activation energy (Ea ) barrier, which is fundamentally responsible for the initial large overpotential. Herein, a systematic investigation of accelerated bulk Li2 S oxidation reaction kinetics was studied by using organochalcogenide-based redox mediators, in which phenyl ditelluride (PDTe) can significantly reduce the Ea of Li2 S and lower the initial charge potential. Simultaneously, it can alleviate the polysulfides shuttling effect by covalently anchoring the soluble polysulfides and converting them into insoluble lithium phenyl tellusulfides (PhTe-Sx Li, x>1). This alters the redox pathway and accelerates the reaction kinetics of Li2 S cathode. Consequently, the Li||Li2 S-PDTe cell shows excellent rate capability and enhanced cycling stability. The Si||Li2 S-PDTe full cell delivers a considerable capacity of 953.5 mAh g-1 at 0.2 C.

PURPOSE: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have emerged as a novel class of drugs carrying a potential risk of uveitis. Due to the rarity, current knowledge on this safety issue is still incomplete. This study employed the post-marketing surveillance data to comprehensively describe and assess the uveitis events after the use of ICIs. METHODS: Data between 2004 and 2021 were downloaded from the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS), and the uveitis events reported for ICIs were identified and included in this study. Clinical details of these reports were collected and analysed. Four data mining methods were utilised to investigate the potential associations between uveitis and different ICI regimens. RESULTS: Overall, 461 uveitis cases after exposure to ICI therapies were reported. Melanoma (58.79%) was revealed as the most common indication for receiving ICIs. The median onset time of uveitis was 41 (interquartile range 18-91) days after ICI initiation. 9.54% of these cases resulted in disability. Data mining results showed 5 ICIs generated positive uveitis signals when used alone. Ipilimumab yielded the most noticeable uveitis signal with the highest reporting odds ratio (ROR = 6.73, 95% two-sided CI = 5.26, 8.60), proportional reporting ratio (PRR = 6.69, χ2=308.52), information component (IC = 2.74, IC025 = 2.14) and empirical Bayes geometric mean (EBGM = 6.66, EBGM05 = 5.42), followed by pembrolizumab, cemiplimab, nivolumab and atezolizumab. When nivolumab, pembrolizumab or atezolizumab was administrated together with ipilimumab, obviously stronger uveitis signal was detected than that for either of them. CONCLUSIONS: This study provided an overview of the clinical features of ICI-related uveitis cases in the FAERS. Data mining results revealed that positive uveitis signals commonly existed within this drug class, but signal strength varied among ICIs. When ICIs were used in a combined way, uveitis signals became obviously stronger. Therefore, early ophthalmic monitoring is important when applying ICIs to patients, especially those with a tendency for uveitis, such as melanoma patients.

Considerable efforts have been devoted to Li-S batteries, typically the soluble polysulfides shuttling effect. As a typical transition metal sulfide, MoS2 is a magic bullet for addressing the issues of Li-S batteries, drawing increasing attention. In this study, we introduce amorphous MoS3 as analogous sulfur cathode material and elucidate the dynamic phase evolution in the electrochemical reaction. The metallic 1T phase incorporated 2H phase MoS2 with sulfur vacancies (SVs-1T/2H-MoS2) decomposed from amorphous MoS3 achieves refined mixing with the "newborn" sulfur at the molecular level and supplies continuous conduction pathways and controllable physical confinement. Meanwhile, the in situ-generated SVs-1T/2H-MoS2 allows lithium intercalation in advance at high discharge voltage (≥1.8 V) and enables fast electron transfer. Moreover, aiming at the unbonded sulfur, diphenyl diselenide (PDSe), as a model redox mediator is applied, which can covalently bond sulfur atoms to form conversion-type organoselenosulfides, changing the original redox pathway of "newborn" sulfur in MoS3, and suppressing the polysulfides shuttling effect. It also significantly lowers the activation energy and thus accelerates the sulfur reduction kinetics. Thus, the in situ-formed intercalation-conversion hybrid electrode of SVs-1T/2H-MoS2 and organoselenosulfides realizes enhanced rate capability and superior cycling stability. This work provides a novel concept for designing high-energy-density electrode materials.
